Questions & Answers For Installing Tornado Shelters

Q: Why should I invest in a storm shelter?

A: Tornadoes and severe storms can strike with little warning. A storm shelter provides a safe space for you and your family to take cover, significantly increasing your chances to stay safe. Our storm shelters are built to withstand the most powerful storms, meeting FEMA, ATSA, and NSSA safety standards.

Q: What types of storm shelters do you offer?

A:  We provide both garage storm shelters (installed in the floor of your garage), outdoor storm shelters (installed in your yard or driveway), and above ground safe rooms. Each has unique benefits, and we can help you decide which fits your home best.

Q: How long does it take to install a storm shelter?

A:  Most installations are completed within a single day depending on the size and placement. Garage shelters require precise cutting into the concrete, while outdoor shelters may take longer due to excavation, placement, and cementing it into the ground.

Q: How many people can fit inside a storm shelter?

A:  Storm shelters come in various sizes, ranging from 4-person units to 14-person storm shelters, ensuring safety for your entire household.

Q: Are your storm shelters FEMA-approved?

A: Yes! All our shelters meet or exceed FEMA, ATSA, and NSSA guidelines for extreme weather protection.

Q: What happens if I get trapped inside the storm shelter?

A:  Our tornado storm shelters can be equipped with hydraulic jacks and winches, ensuring you can safely exit even if debris blocks the main entry.  Most cites require you to register the tornado shelters once it’s in, that way they know you have it, and first responders will have a better idea where to search.  It’s also a good idea to notify co-workers, family, and neighbors that you installed a storm shelter.

Q: Can I store items in my storm shelter when it’s not in use?

A:  Yes! Many homeowners store emergency supplies like flashlights, water, and non-perishable food inside their shelters. Just be sure to keep enough room to enter quickly when a storm is approaching.
